Progress is progress, no matter how small. James has done well today. He remains off the paralytic, and should not have to go back on it. The doctors made some adjustments to his equipment and he has responded positively with his blood oxygen level a high of 74. The bedside dialysis has assisted his kidney function. We are told the dialysis is only temporary, during his recovery.
He is still on very strong pain medication and not aware of where he is or what is happening. However, being off the paralytic his body has started to have some movement. In fact, when my sister entered his room today (speaking loudly as you would expect a kindergarten teacher) Jimmy opened his eyes. I know he will have no memory of anything now, it was just touching to see him move and open his eyes. This was the first movement that he made on his own since getting to OSU Medical Center on February 5th.
My sister has been reading your blog comments to my parents. So many uplifting comments from family and friends are helping them find comfort in this difficult time. James would be awed by the amount of support and number of people praying for him.
Let's hope and pray the positive trend continues. Goodnight.
Dave, I'm so glad to hear Jim has progressed so much this week. We'll continue to pray for him here in Vienna - you can count on that. Let us know if you need any help with anything! JW
