2/15 Tuesday Afternoon

More positive news this afternoon. James is still off the paralytic, which is good. It has not been an issue today, as it was when they tried previously. In addition, his sedation has been decreased by 50%. However, he is still fully out and unaware. He will not wake up for days, and only if he continues to improve will they try to wake him to where he would know where he is or have any awareness. When moved today his face grimaced and his closed eyes moved or twitched. This is good, a sign that his body is responsive and is waking up from it's paralyzed state.

The oxygen being provided by the ventilator has been decreased to 50%. Even with his body doing more of the work, his blood oxygen level remains acceptable at 51, with a saturation of 86%. In addition, they are starting bedside dialysis to assist his kidneys. The ECMO machine is running at the maximum level. They continue to give him blood and platelets.

There have been several up's and down's since James was first hospitalized on January 30th. Since then it had seemed his overall condition was not materially improving. He is still critically ill, and I am not trying to be overly optimistic, but yesterday and today have been a very positive trend.

It is humbling to know there are so many people pulling for Jimmy.

It is encouraging to know that Jimmy and his body are fighting harder and making some progress.
