2/21 Monday Morning

Good morning.

James did not tolerate the further reduction in sedation medication well. His blood pressure and heart rate elevated too much. Therefore, he is back on the stronger dosages of sedation/pain meds.

The doctor was in to see him this morning. He is still hopeful that the ECMO machine can be removed in a few days. After he is off the ECMO they will be able to sit him up and position him differently.

They are planning to do a tracheotomy in the near future. Then the ventilator tube will be moved out of his mouth and into the trach incision.  This is better for a patient who has been on the ventilator long-term and when they begin to have more awareness.

For now they will not make any other changes and see how he maintains. He has made good progress in the past few days.  We must be patient.
